Got code p0171 on 99 cavalier after running out of gas.

Question

P0171 Chevrolet - I ran out of gas 2 nights ago. After getting help and putting a gallon or so in to get me to a gas station, my car didn't seem to want to start. I pumped the gas pedal a few times whole turning the key and it started after a couple tries but wasn't running very strong. I pressed the gas a few more times. Got it to move down the road and it still seemed like it didn't want to move but would perk up and accelerate even though I didn't press the gas any harder. I noticed my check engine light had come on. I took it to a shop today and got the p0171 code. Just trying to narow it down. Does anyone know what it could be?

P0171 Fuel trim lean Bank 1

When you run out of fuel it can really do harm to the fuel pump. If the problem persist have the fuel pressure check.
