Would a bad park/neutral switch or P0705 cause the car to be stuck in the first gear, also the gear lever gets stuck in the D position, have to turn the car off to get in the P position?

Hi there,

This can cause the issue. If the transmission control module is not getting the correct signal from the switch, then it's not going to know what gear the car is in. It's also usually going to cause the driveability issue.
