Car runs and shifts great but when you are around 40 to 60 miles an hour,if I try to speed up and the car downshifts (into 3rd I believe) it slams hard into that gear. There have been a few time that I have lost reverse. If battery is disconnected the TCM is reset. When I do this the car shifts perfectly for a while then it starts to shift hard after driving for a while. Is it possible with this error P0741 that the problem is just the TCM?

P0741 Torque convertor clutch circuit stuck off

Yes it can be the ECM. but P0741 would not make you loose reverse or create a hard shift.you can    also have  a internal mechancial condition with the transmission. If you lose reverse at times  and your vehicle downshift hard into gear , it would be 2nd gear. this would be more of a transmission mechanical problem.
