1996 Ford Ranger 4x4 P0756 light on

Question

The trouble started with the trans not wanting to shift in to 2 gear until you let off the accelerator.
After a few miles the OD/Off light starts flashing and then get a hard shift into 2nd. 3rd and 4th gears seem to shift normally
