P2096 Mitsubishi -how to confirm catalytic converter is plugged

Have fault codes P2096, and P2098
No one seems confident of the cause,although mechanic thinks I need to change the catalytic converters. How do I confirm that they are plugged without changing them.

Hi there,

What I do to confirm a bad converter is to pull the O2 sensor out BEFORE the converter. Usually if the cat is plugged up, then it will run better. If not, then there won't be any change in the way the car runs.
