I got the engine code P0455 on my 2002 Mazda 626 4 Cyl, how do I fix it myself?

P0455 Evaporative emission control system leak detected (gross leak)

How is the fuel cap, was it properly secured, Fuel caps have a seal that does wear out, the best fix is to either make sure the fuel cap is properly secured or if it is worn just replace the fuel cap.

 

The majority of P0455 is the fuel cap, here this fuel cap seal looks good and passes a visual test, but with a fuel cap tester it fails, the fix in a majority of P0455 is to replace the fuel cap.

And in some cases, it is not an easy fix, this is a fuel filler hose that had a large rip, you can smell raw fuel, this set a P0455, this fix required the fuel filler hose to be replaced
