When I went for my smog check it said "fail. QBD Bulb Check" then service fault codes "PO3 3 Camshaft Position Sensor"B"Circuit High B.
My question is do I have to have the whole sensor replaced? Or just the bulb? This may be a dumb question but I'm a girl and don't know much about it. What will the part cost? The mechanic said if I bring him the part he will install it for me at a lower rate. How much do you think this "low rate" could be? Oh, also what if I don't get it done, will it ruin my car? Thanks, Victoria

P0393 Camshaft position sensor - signal too high

You will need to do  both, The buld check is the function check, when you turn the vehicle on the CK ENG LT will come on momentarly and if a fault is not detected it will turn off. But in your case you have a CK ENG LT but the buld being out you were not informed from the instrument panel. The purpose of the smog check is not only to protect the enviroment from harmful vehilce emission , but to also keep your vehicle in fuel control. which in turn allows you to save more fuel and money. Fixing P0393 is to your advantage,  when the camshaft sensor is high this would mean poor connection from a open circuit or it just disconnected where you may just need to have it connected, or it is internally open meaning the sensor itself is non operational,If you do not get this situation fix, you will use more fuel, and having the smog check  it will fail  and this means you will not be able to register your vehicle. Will it ruin the vehicle ? , in the long run yes it will
