What does P1870 mean for year 2000 Isuzu Trooper Limited Edition

I use a 2000 model Isuzu Trooper Limited Edition. The MIL showed 'check trans' and 'check engine' and upon scan, indicated Code P1870. What is the meaning of this code and what can possibly cause it? I observe that the transmission drags a little before shifting into gear 3 or 4. I am presently using Dexron II in the transmission, but I am told the vehicle needs Dexron III. Can this be responsible for my sluggish shifts?

Yes, your Trooper use  DEXRON III.  The service manual is not specific about what could be the problem with the P1870 code, the manual only recommends to check for a low transmission fluid. I suggest changing the transmission fluid with  DEXRON III and reset the light.
