2004 toyota Solara v6 SE automatic tranny ( yet you can manual;y shift it as you want or just leave it in automatic) P 0500 speed sensor code,
~~
at times it works great for a short time,, THere are two speed sensors both magnetic type.. I replaced one (per Toyota dealer.Both are the same replacement part #). it changed symptoms slightly, still intermittent problem. speedo will not work at times... sometimes it will not go in reverse,,. rare however,
~~
Yesterday it would will start run and only air bag light was is on,, ( air bag is probably unrelated to shifting and p 0500 code)
at times it will shift speedo works, normally ,for like the 1st 1.5 miles ,
then ((check engine , ABS Light , Brake light , and TPS (tire presssure sensor lights)) all come on and speedo goes to zero, but tranny shifted just fine.
5 seconds later all the light go out ( except AIR BAG ) and speedo works great,
then back and forth every 5 seconds. and yesterday the tranny would shifts ok all the time.
~~~~~~
Today i swapped the new speed sensor to the top position of tranny ( all three sensors measure about 600 ohms ) 1 new two old..
I removed the old green colored magnetic sensor that was on the top of tranny closer to the engine , now it worn't shift out of 1st gear, and all lights are on on (Check eng, ABS , BRAKE, and TPS )and speed stays at zero, . for like 6 minutes time frame.
Could some sensors be better than others ? i bought a cheaper one from E-bay.for like $25.00 .locally they are $ 80 up to 140 at Toyota dealer.
I do not think it's the sensors sine they all ohm out at 600 ohms. and magnets work,
what else can it be? i cleaned my grounds.. best visual shows the wiring harness looks and seems ok.. i wiggled and giggles gently on wires and connections and no difference . COuld it be the ECU,BUT IT;S PRETTY intermittent and seems like it acts different from day to day. and VERY intermittent.
anyt help would be most certainly appreciated
P0500 Vehicle speed sensor A
The vehicle speed sensor , if it is normal you would have a normal working speedometer, if the speedometer is not normal the VSS is faulty. The speed sensor on the transmission is the transmission revolution sensor (ATM) and transmision revolution sensor (NC). These sensor are for the shifting of the transmision one is a output transmission sensor and the other is a input speed sensor (turbine ) . these 2 sensor will not be related to P0500. If the combination went flat and the transmission shifted fine put the transmission sensor back in its original place, The combination meter can be faulty , that or the skid control , this where the speed sensor sends out the signal to the ECM.
