I have a new throttle body to put in today but afraid it wont fix the problem. The car shuts down with reduced engine power and also relays messages about stability control shut down and traction control. I can feel hesitation from the throttle when I give the gas a good punch and sometimes car keep the car running. The problem seems to be worse when I hold the gas pedal and car at a consistant speed. Will a new throttle body fix this issue or is it likely not the problem?
P1516 Reduced engine power
P1516 on a Pontiac mean that both TP sensor are invalid, it does not see the throtttle position in relation to each other, To determine if this is the throttle body or not is decided on different code present if any. If P1516 is by itself any there is no other code present, a new throttle body will not resolve the issue. unless it is internally shorted ( there would be a TPS code) . Whenever the CK ENG LT comes on the Traction light and Stabilty control are disabled this is for safety reason, with the CK ENG LT on the vehicle is not operating at manufactuer specifications so those feature are disabled. Most of the time P1516 is poor or improper mating connection only if this code is by itself .
Here is a P1516 on a Land rover the problem was the tab that held the connection together was broken and not making a positive connection , the vehicle would go in reduce mode, the fix was to use a zip tie and make a proper connection.
