I'm looking for info on a 1998 Ford Ranger with ODBII Code P1740. Any help/

P1740 TCC Malfunction

The TCC is torque convertor clutch, when this code occurs it is a mechanical failure of the TCC solenoid, it can stall the engine in second gear and possible with it in overdrive. The only known fix is to replace the TCC solenoid. whether your transmission is a 4R44E or a 5R55E you can just sevice the TCC solenoid, to do so the tansmission pan and its filter will need to be removed.there the TCC can be accessed and replaced.the TCC has a high failure rate of the pintle just breaking. So you may have to make replacing the TCC a hobby.
