I was driving and both my brake and battery warning lights came on and stayed on.

Question

What should I do? Both the brake light and the battery lights came on, whilst driving on the highway. There was a strong rubber/oil smell. I turned the car off checked the engine, no idea what I was looking for. I tentatively drove home. Everything seems ok both lights are still on. The car has had new clutch cable and gear box 6mths ago, and new battery 8 months ago, oil change a week ago.
