Transmission was rarely shifting into 4th (Automatic Transm.) and jerking into other gears at times. Check engine light on. Dealer wants to replace the ECM for $989, then see if the transmission also needs replaced (another $4400). I see online recommendations to remove the ECM and send it out for repair (some saying it may be simply re-soldering).
I found a letter from Toyota to address a class action suit, allowing free replacement of ECM, but only for 10 years(so expired).
Any successful low cost options that have a high probability of fixing the problem?

P0750 Shift solenoid A malfunction (Shift solenoid valve SL1)

Yes this is correct there was once a recall for the ECM and also a possible replacement of the transaxle, It is now a TSB bulletin # 3432. The good new is you may not have this issue where you need a transaxle and a ECM, If you have just P0750 thats good. The Recall at that time was for a variety of codes from the transaxle which where harsh shift mil light on DTC store are P0750, P0753, P0755, P0758, and or P1760. You would have to have this code set in place, If you just have P0750 it just that,.what causes this code are the shift solenoid are stuck open or closed and possible the valve body is blocked. Depending on the mileage and the transmission fluid condition you may just be able to replace the solenoid and the transmission filter and fluid. Have the solenoid tested out if it fails it resistance test replace the solenoid. The only problem is you have to remove the transmission pan to access the solenoid and if you are already at the transmission pan remove you might as well replace the shift solenoids the SL1 and SL2
