The engine light blinked 8 times what does this mean?

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty and been having troubles starting it. We have to give it gas for like 5 minutes or more before it will start. Now my husband said today he when he tried to start it The engine light blinked 8 times what does this mean? is this some kind of code to what is wrong with it/ Please advise.

HI there,

The flashing isn't a code, but it does usually mean that there is a misfire. I would do a tune up and see if the light continues to flash, you may also have a faulty ignition coil on the system.
