if I change the gas cap will the check Egine light reset?

my have a check engine light came on, checked code it said small emissions leak. if I try replacing the gas cap or clean it do I have to reset the engine code or will the ECM reset the light by itself?

Whenever the CK ENG LT comes on and yo make the correction , only if the cause of the code is from the gas cap, and there is a correction it should take up to 3 drive cycles or less before the CK ENG LT turns off.
