Traveling at 70 mph in cruise control and engine sputtered, then Auto transmission seemed to be searching for gear. Transmission warning light came on, car slowed and finally engined died. Would start and run for 3 or 4 seconds then die again. Had to tow it home. After sitting overnight car will keep running but I'm afraid to drive and get stuck again. Gear 2 ratio incorrect. Fluid is full and clean, no engine light and no more transmission warning light, just the P0732 code. Car has 119,000 miles, meticulously maintained with no warning signs before this. Any ideas??

P0732 Incorrect gear ratio 2nd gear

The engine sputter, will cause the transmission to hunt for its gear , this transmission code is a result of the engine stalling out especially when your in drive and the engine stalls. What ever stalled the engine cause this code. for the transmission if this was a transmission failure it would not hunt for a gear but would flare. Some of the causes for stalling the engine are fuel pump problem , cranks position sensor . and these do not have to code up you will have to go by symptoms.
