transmission 2002 taurus stopped working

Question

out of know where my trans died while the cruz control downshifted at a top of a grade3, going approx. 60mph. it seemed to do a double downshift then the RPM maxed out, atthe same time car went into nuetral,,,it did not go into nuetral like i thoght,,still waqs in Drive.
NO GEAR works,,all are like nuetral. trans oil did smell burnt. NO CODES or engene lites.

A transmission failure does not have to give a code or check engine light. This is something that is unfortunate when a transmission fails suddenly. Check the transmission fluid level, in park and at idle the fluid should show in the transmission crosshatched markings.
