Firstly the P0031 code came up the heater started blowing cold air when stationary and now the car keeps over heating, could Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 1 cause this problem!

Also how do you check the sensor is working or has the correct voltage it needs to operate normally, is there a way of testing this with a voltmeter

Vehicle: 2002 Nissan entra 1.8

HI there,

This will not cause the engine to overheat. In most cases when you get this code it's due to the sensor itself. I would check the wiring harness for the sensor as it's possible the sensor wiring is damaged. This sensor basically is a 4 wire sensor. A main voltage, 12 volts, a ground, then a signal wire for the sensor and a signal wire for the sensor heater. So, check for 12 volts, continuity to ground, a fluctuating voltage from .5 to 1. volt when running and finally a consistent voltage around .5 milli volts for the sensor heater.
