i don't have the check engine light on, but ran the OBD scanner on it, misfortunately a code pop up P0014 exhaust (b) camshaft position timing-over advanced- (bank 1), i replaced the camshaft positioning sensor but the idling continued unstable, could a lose wire or something mechanical be the cause of it? the car is barely used it has 50,000 miles on it!

P0014 Variable camshaft timing VANOS

If the fuel pump was faulty you would have a lean condition and a lean code with a random misfire, with a fuel injector disable. What causes P0014 is the vanos being overly advance will give you rough idle, initaily the camshaft are not in it inital position, Replaceing the camshaft actuator should be the first step.
