I installed a K&N filter kit on my 2005 Pontiac Vibe 1.8L and now I got the engine code P0171, do I have to put the old filter back?

No you do not have to a lean bank code can be caused by MAF contamination just from  driving and use, do a MAF cleaning, this may help, What usually causes a lean bank code are vacuum leaks that are unmetered,low fuel pressure,or a MAF under reporting.
