My 2001 Pontiac Grand AM was throwing a P0171 code and sputtering at idle. It ended up being the vacuum grommet that plugs into the top of the throttle body had dry rotted, causing a vacuum leak. I replaced it, CEL is out and car runs great. Hope this helps.
