P0864 IS THE CODE, BUT VW WANT CRANK

I have a vw 2004 Beetle, car was running fine until I stop. then it would not start back up. code given PO864. JUST HAD A NEW ALTERNATOR INSTALL.

Is the alternator correct?, VW has 2 different types of alternator, have the battery tested and if possible check the condition if weak charge it, As for P0864 this is TCM (transmission control module) communication range/performance. Move the gear selector around and check to see if you can get a cranking signal.
