99 ford exped. code p1174 eng. dies and will not stays on, only cranks.

Question

while driving vehicle, all of a sudden engine dies out, i pull over and put in park and try to start
the engine back up. the would not start, but the engine is cranking. let vehicle set for 3 hours, came back and started vehicle right up.
