Ford used butterfly valves to change the path of the intake air during different running conditions on the motor. Basically it gives you long runners at low revs and short runners at high revs. This benefits power, emission, and fuel economy.

The control for those butterfly valves is the 'intake manifold runner control' or IMRC. 1997-1998 Mark VIIIs use electronic control. The computer is detecting a problem where it is stuck open. That code would mean that it's on the passenger-side.

I'm planning on trying the procedure described on this forum thread to clear the problem on my vehicle. https://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/xenforo/index.php?threads/diagnostic-trouble-code-question.16113/

Good luck!
