My car simply shut off while driving. It would then turn over and almost immediately shut back down. The garage is leaning towards a fuel pump problem. If that's not the problem then we'll waste a couple of days getting the part and installing it only to find the problem lies elsewhere. They said they did not get an engine code regarding the CPS - I thought I had read that that was possible but cannot find it anywhere.

Yes it can, the ECM uses the cranksensor to know its running or starting, without the ECM getting a crank signal the fuel pump wont bother to turn on the fuel pump it will prime,,One of the popular failure with Hyundai is the CKP sensor connection, try wiggle the harness and note any changes in operation of the engine, If you have a tachometer and your cranking the engine and your tach reads "0" you have a faulty CKP.,
