B1600 - How is this fixed? Does the key require coding?

Question

I recent had my key shaft replaced on my keyfob as the key had snapped off,I keep on getting the blinking engine management light whilst using the new key, however, when I use the spare key the light doesn't come on anymore, is there an easy fix for this? My car is a ford focus lx 05 plate
