U1000 resets and stays off. Should we wait to see if it repeats?

Was in "limp home" mode, reset gas cap, normal performance returned, "service engine soon" light stayed on until it was reset.

You dont have to do anything until the code comes back, U1000 is a bad ground code most likely one of the ground might be loose or it lose contact for a few seconds and set the codes. If the code comes back you will to clean and retighten the grounds by the engine bay and under the dash
