My 2000 Nissan altima gxe stalls out at times. I go to start it and it starts but won't stay on it dies out if I give it some gas and put in gear it will go. It will be okay for a while then stalls. The service engine soon lite came on and stayed on at times it would go out for long periods of time. now it's been on for a while. One of the mechanics at the bus company put a reader on and p1126 came up in my Haynes Nissan Altima book it says p 1126 is electric throttle control motor relay circut open but on- line I found that p1126 for my make and model has to do with the thermostat. Would a faulty or stuck open thermostat cause my car to stall out?

Vehicle: 2000 Nissan Altima gxe 2.4

P1126 Throttle motor-open circuit- except Maxima 2002

P1126 Thermostat stuck open-except Maxima 2002,

You are definetly a throttle motor,The thermostat maintains a temperature of 210 *F for fuel control this is the optima temperature for fuel control, and emission, A open thermoatat will make the vehicle run rich making it use more fuel, you would not stall out, The throttle motor also controls idle,by angle of the throttle blades, this is where you are stalling out at,
