I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZXW 2.0L with engine code P0301, what is the meaning?

P0301 code means that the cylinder #1 is not working properly. You could start by replacing the spark plugs.

Yes, it turns out it was the spark plugs being old that were the cause of the check engine light on and code po301 & 316 (after clearing/ reset of codes).  Specs say to gap plugs for this car at .051 and the old plugs were past .065.  I put in a new set of platinum tipped plugs gapped to .050 and the car runs fine, now.  Thanks for the help.
