Periodically my 2001 Nissan Maxima appears to get stuck in one gear and the car starts slowing down and sounds strained when I press on the gas. I usually have enough power to pull over and once I shut the engine off for about 10-15 mins, the car drives smoothly without any indication there was a problem. This usually happens at least once a week, more if I drive the car for several miles. I have taken the car to a transmission shop and he thought my transmission was fine. He advised me to get a complete tune up and to change the Airflow sensor. I did this but the problem persists. I took the car to Pet Boys on Saturday I got a diagnostic reading of P0720.

usually replacing the revolution sensor takes care of the problem, it is probably the first thing to do the other possible causes are

- Sensor circuit is open or shorted
- Revolution sensor
- Damaged ECM
- Damaged Transmission Control Module (TCM)
