If you have a Maxima with automatic transmission, then the "Park and Neutral" signal is send to the control unit by the "Inhibitor Switch". If the inhibitor switch is bad or not properly adjusted then it can set the P0705 code and at the same time it may prevent the transmission from going into overdrive. In short the code will not prevent shifting into overdrive, but the component that is triggering the P0705 code could.
