Code P0447 Nissan Description

The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) canister vent control valve is located on the EVAP canister and is used to seal the canister vent. This solenoid (the EVAP canister vent control valve) responds to signals from the Engine Control Module (ECM). When the ECM sends an ON signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized.
A plunger will then move to seal the canister vent. The ability to seal the vent is necessary for the on board diagnosis of other evaporative emission control system components.This solenoid valve is used only for diagnosis, and usually remains opened. When the vent is closed, under normal purge conditions, the evaporative emission control system is depressurized and allows EVAP Control System (Small Leak) diagnosis.

  • Looking on rock auto's website there is a vapor cannister vent solenoid or there is a vapor canister purge valve. Which is it? The code at Auto Zone reads evap canister vent control valve - circuit open probable cause. To me, that says its a solenoid issue or a faulty wiring harness? I just bought a new solenoid and installed it, light goes off during first second or two then kicks on. Does it take time to adjust or should it go off instantly?

  • My Nissan Frontier 2004 had both a p0447 and a p1490 trouble codes. It took me some time but I traced it to a wiring problem. Had 12v at the cab splice on the passenger side wiring harness but no power at the canister purge valve and the by-pass cut valve. Pulled new wire and soldered it in place. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. You'll need a wiring diagram to sort it out. I got mine from my local librarian. Chilton has a reference source that breaks the wiring down by specific trouble code. So check it out.
