U1460 Code - Engine Idle Speed Message Rationality

Quick Answer

This diagnostic checks the availability and rationality of the Engine Idle Speed signal which is sent by the Engine Control Module (ECM) via a Controller Area Network (CAN) message. Common causes include Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM), Transmission Control Module (TCM) harness is open or shorted, Transmission Control Module (TCM) circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code U1460 Description

This diagnostic checks the availability and rationality of the Engine Idle Speed signal which is sent by the Engine Control Module (ECM) via a Controller Area Network (CAN) message. The diagnostic determines the availability by checking the received value is not equal to the Signal Not Available (SNA) default value. Then the diagnostic checks the rationality by confirming the signal value is within the range defined by a lower and upper threshold. When the CAN signal value is below a calibratable lower threshold or it exceeds a calibratable upper threshold or the signal is not available, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends a Signal Not Available (SNA) default value to the PCM. When the PCM reads one of these conditions then the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U1460 is set.
