Then the diagnostic checks the rationality by confirming the signal value is within the range defined by a lower and upper threshold. When the CAN signal value is below a calibratable lower threshold or it exceeds a calibratable upper threshold or the signal is not available, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends a Signal Not Available (SNA) default value to the PCM.
