Code U1000 Infiniti Description

The Controller Area Network (CAN) is a standard bus system in vehicles that enables the connection of automotive devices without the need for a host computer. The exchange of operating information and commands among devices is facilitated by pre-programmed information about the required message exchange on the serial data circuits. Communication is carried out using two dedicated wires, known as CAN high and CAN low, with both lines carrying 2.5V when the CAN bus is in idle mode. During the transmission of data bits, the CAN high line increases to 3.75V while the CAN low drops to 1.25V, creating a 2.5V differential between the lines. Since communication relies on a voltage differential between the two bus lines, the CAN bus is NOT sensitive to inductive spikes, electrical fields, or other noise. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the Engine Control Module (ECM) is not transmitting or receiving CAN communication signals for 2 seconds or more.

    Vehicle showing a U1000 with a P0456...with a no-start condition...

Disconnect Battery...Connect ohm meter, set on low scale, across Data Link Connector pins 14 and 6...Correct reading must be 60 ohms; meter read 75 ohms...The IPD module Connector E-17 across pins 39 and 40; normal reading is 120 ohms... ECM Connector E-10 across pins 96 and 97; normal reading is also 120 ohms...These two ohmic values are in parallel, which accounts for a normal reading of 60 ohms (test sheet Normal Resistance – CAN Harness)...

Connector E-17 pins 39 and 40 were corroded causing ohmic value to read 626 ohms....Value calculated from faulty reading of 75 ohms at DLC pins 14 and 6...

Removed IPD from vehicle and cleaned all contacts on all connectors...Installed IPD and connectors...Re-read DLC pins 14 and 6; now reads 60 ohms...Re-connected battery; vehicle started...No codes...

  • Thank you for the information!!

  • I have an fx35 2006 model with so many problems, and when i scanned the car it displayed the U1000 can com code.
The front wiper stopped working except the rear one, the parking light stays on and i cant switch it off with the switch (i have changed the switches but didnt fix it), the head light doesnt come on and it doesn't flashes when i turn the switch, the AC and radiator fans kick on when the car start knob is on AC without starting the engine, the orange light on the ciggar lighter doesnt go off, it stays on all the time, the rear glass defogger doesnt work anymore. With all these faults i suspect the BCM or ECM. I want to clean all the grounds but i dont know where all are located.
