Had engine light on for few days with p0705. No more engine light but tester still show p0705?

I have a engine light on for several days and a tester indicate a P)705 code. I took the car to COTTMAN transmission and they said their diagnostic indicate the car need an overhaul for the transmission for $2,700. I took the car to ford dealer to my surprise when the mechanic try to test to code, their was no engine light and the tester still shows P0705 but he told me do not worry since the engine light is off. I had a poor battery connection during the days when the engine light came on, and I replace the bad connector with a new cable. The ford mechanic told me there is a very slim chance of transmission problem an to bring the car again if the engine light is on again.I appreciate your advice!

Hi there,

This code is for the transmission range sensor which is externally mounted to the transmission. If the transmission is working fine then this would not require a rebuild and honestly in most cases with this code all you have to do is replace or adjust the range switch.
