what causes po765 code on 1999 mitsubishi galant?

when i disconnect the battery, and then connect the battery, the car will run for hours with no code, but when i put in the gear the po765 code comes on for overdrive solenoid but the solenoid checks out good. what is the problem?

This code is for a problem with shift solenoid D. It's very possible dirty or low transmission fluid could cause this code to appear, as well as a problem with the shift solenoid.
