escalade '02, doesn't start, Just clicks. Code U1056 (Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Configuration)

Question

escalade '02, doesn't start,  doesn't even turn the start, just clicks. Code U1056 (Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Configuration).  Volts to starter, fuse all good. Can crank by turning key on and touching wires together from the fuse box but will not start when turning the key.
