I have a 2005 kia sorento trouble code 171 came on bank 1.

Question

All info I can find says O2 sensor or MAF sensor, but none of these were for a Kia. Just wanted to find out if that code is the same thing, being that not every code is exactly the same for every manufacturer.

It's the same thing. Start by checking for intake or exhaust  leaks, if no leaks are present you have to check for bad injector. If injector are OK and no leak, you may have to replaced the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
