I would like to know if replacing the solenoid is better? or would replacing the whole valve body ruin the transmission?

Unfortunately, there are too many variables. It depends on the condition of the transmission, the mileage of your vehicle, how often you have serviced the transmission, your driving habits, and more. Remove the transmission, if there is no debris on the pan, it means that the transmission is not coming apart, and replacing just the solenoid should take care of the problem. Some tests will be necessary for a more accurate diagnosis.
