P0230 2008 Equinox code. relay stays on when connected into the relay slot under hood

P0230 08 equinox code. relay stays on when connected just as the title says / changed the fuel pump and the relay and checked all inside and under hood fuses. thats the only code that shows. does the relay supposed to stay on when the key is off? it clicks on when connected into the slot. any fuel pump diagram for this car or info would be helpful.. i can use a dmm and pretty savvy on the repair side of things.

No, the relay must be off and make a clicking noise when the key is turned ON. 

The ECM powers the relay through the relay terminal 25 (green wire) when the key is turned ON, which activates the relay and lets voltage go from the Fulp Pump fuse to the Fuel Pump.

It sounds like you always have voltage at the ECM terminal, possibly due to a short circuit or a faulty ECM. Check if you have voltage all the time at the green wire.

Yes it does have voltage on the relay with the key off. Good ground on one coil side of the relay and constant power on the other coil side with the key off.i could have figured that by your reply but I still went and tested it lol . So it's leaning towards the ecm huh. Anything else to test ? And thnx for the reply also.

Disconnect the ECM and check if you have voltage with the ECM disconnected. If there is no voltage, then the problem is a short circuit.

With the ecm disconnected,I still have voltage on one of the plugins for the relay coil. So that rules out the ecm I guess. Do you have a pinout, schematic or diagram that I can look at to trace these wires?  If not my assumption would be to start on the positive side of the fuse panel plug where android always have voltage (that should only be there when the key is turned )and work backwards from there.

I'm confused.

With the ECM connected you have battery voltage on two relay terminals and with the ECM disconnected you have battery voltage on one terminal only.

If my statement is correct, then the problem is the ECM. You must have battery voltage at one terminal all the time, which is the battery voltage that comes from the fuse.

What is the color of the wire that you battery voltage?

ok with the ecm disconnected, i still have positive voltage going to the relay and its in an on state . nothing changed just like my first question. the relay is still "ON"with the ecm disconnected. so its not going to be the ecm as it was taken out of the equation. so now its finding where and why there is a constant voltage to the relay pin to make it stay  on with no ecm  . no key in the ignition, nothing turned on and voltage  still  on the relay and it still clicks when i plug the relay back into its slot.   With the ecm disconnected,I have voltage on the fuse for the fuel pump(#39 on the fuse block) and I have voltage at the relay for the relay for the fuel pump (#62 on the fuse block). The relay is ON becka when I pull it out and plug it in,I hear and feel it clicking.

I'll add the only diagram I got from the manual. It looks like there is no other connector or component between the Relay and the ECM. The green wire goes straight to the ECM. I hope that helps.

Well I figured it out sort of. When you take the fuse panel up and open it up,there are a lot of little relays inside about 20+ of them So i figured it must be one of those. Using the diagram that you so kindly provided me i just bypassed the relay that had constant voltage on it in on the top,put my own relay,fuse and diode in ran a wire to the grey fuel pump wire at the tank and it starts up. I have a obd code but I can see what that is later. So just bypassing that all made the car start. I figure you would like a report when something gets fixed  so people can add it to their memory if this happens to them..I THINK a new fuse box would have fixed it but we will see later on in that. I really do thanx you for your help with this.
