The codes 7E9 and 7E8 are not OBDII codes. When the OBDII scanner plugs in your vehicle, the OBDII scanner gets the 7E9 and 7E8 ($07E9 and $07E8) codes from the ECM. The codes are a menu of systems that the OBDII scanner can access. OBDII scanner interprets the codes and displays the menu. Some scanners can't solve these codes and show the codes instead of the interpretation. Clicking on the code menu will read the OBDII codes (e.g. P0420 or P0455), if any, from that system.

Menu Code 7E8 ($07E8): Engine System

Menu Code 7E9 ($07E9): Transmission System

The 7E9 and 7E8 are not codes, so we don't know what the problem is, and we can't tell you where is located until you get the code with another scanner.

I thought you said that 7E9 and 7E8 are P0420 and P0455 respectively and these are codes. Also I only have OBDII to use on the car, cant it detect further the codes for me rather than 7E9 and 7E8?. Please kindly put more light on it.

We never say that, those codes are just examples. Without the correct codes, we cannot help you, we can't guess what the problem is.

Since OBDII can't get the actual code, which type of machine can someone use to check fault on Volkswagen Jetta 2.5L, 2006 model and give exact code to identify the fault or error. Thanks
