Why is the generator warning light on but the generator is new?

2013 Chevrolet Captiva 2.2d, the generator is new, but the generator warning light is on

How many volts do you have at the battery with the engine running? You could have a bad battery

Check the voltage coming off the main post on your alternator if it is below 12.7v , disconnect the terminal on the main post and see if there is output from the post. You may have a wiring issue, or a fuse was blown and never replaced whenever you replaced your generator. Check your generator fuse and or generator relay. This can also sometimes be a ecm fault.
