Range sensor transmission

replace the rack in pinion on my fusion and now it doesnt start the mechanic tells me th e range sensor is bad

Hi there

The range sensor on the transmission will prevent the car from starting. If the computer doesn't know the car is in park, it's not going to allow any power to the starter.
