Car does not move when at a stop light and pressing on the gas pedal

Question

This is a 2013 Nissan Altima S. Also when I was driving on the highway, I had it on cruise contact and suddenly the rpm jump over 5000 the the car started to slow down and I could not get it back to more than 30mph. The MIL service light came on 2 days ago but the started before the light came on. Can you please help? Thanks

Without knowing the stored code that is causing the check engine light to come on, it's difficult to say what the problem is. It sounds like the car may be in fail safe mode. This is usually the result of an issue with the throttle body or the pedal position sensor.
