I had recently brought my car to a mechanic with the check engine light on. The code they pulled was P2A00 and they said I needed a new O2 sensor. They replaced this and the check engine light stayed on after a drive cycle. I brought it back and they went through the whole system, checking voltages, and ultimately replaced the other O2 sensor. After 2000 miles, the check engine light is still on and now I pull the code P0031. They are telling me I need a new catalytic converter, but I\'m not sure this makes sense and I want to make sure I\'m not getting scammed. Please help!

This code is for the front heated O2 sensor. There is no way a converter will resolve this problem unless it is plugged. This is an electrical malfunction and I would not allow them to replace the converter. It's not going to solve anything and just cost you money.

I would also contact the dealer at this point. There may even be an ecm update.
