How is this issue with the P0705 code resolved?

I've been having issues with my car shifting for some time now. I'm no expert, but it feels like the trans "slips" when shifting between lower gears. Now this code shows up, and I'm hoping to be able to fix this issue.

This code is normally an issue with the transmission range sensor. It's mounted to the transmission under the shift linkage. When it fails it can cause issue with shifting and in some cases it will prevent the car from starting as well.
