code p1217 on a 2003 infiniti fx35

I was driving front San Diego to los angeles when I got to LA the light Service Engine Soon turned on the car started to run kind of sluggish, by then I was about two houses away from my house and I noticed antifreeze on the floor so I turned off t.he car. On this drive I had the A/C on all the time, the fans were on all the time on this drive. When I turned the car off I touched the top water hose that goes from the engine to the radiator was hard, but when it cooled down it wasn't any more. Well the next day in the morning the car being cool I touched the same hose and it was soft? I started the car in the morning and the car got worm but the fans wouldn't start unless I turned on the A/C.....
The radiator cap looks like I have to change it.
But what you experts or home mecanics think?

This code is for the engine over temp. This is usually the result of a bad thermostat, however there is also the possibility that the engine is low on coolant. here is some more info
