Is thos something i need to worry about immediately?

The ses light just turned on last night. I took it to autozone to get the code. The code was p1417. The tech said it's a computer not being read, and he said it's not detrimental. I want to make sure. When I cold start my car, it makes a loud turbine whirring sound for about a minute before it dies down. Lately, that sound has been louder than usual. But besides that, my vehicle drives fine. I drive a 2002 land rover discovery 142k miles.

That correct , what you hear is the secondary air injection pump going on it one for maybe less that a minute. what it does is warm up the catalyutic convertor during cold start.  Here the problem because the CK ENG LT on if the vehicle need a registration and a emission test is required , you fail the emission test.
