Engine light came on but went off after driving about 10 miles...car running smooth when moving but rough idle and noisy when idling. Gas mpg dropped to 7mpg. When I got home and turned off engin, it shuddered slightly. I noticed steam/smoke coming out of from under front....not a burn smell though and it stopped rather quickly. Radiator coolant level and engine oil level were good. The diagnostic code was P0300 when checked. What could this mean and how expensive to have it fixed? I have my vehicle serviced and oil changed regularly. My mileage on vehicle is 103,300 miles.
Hi there,
It is difficult to put a price on this. There are several different things that can cause a misfire code like this. This code basically means there is a random misfire. The computer can't determine the cylinder that's misfiring or more then one is misfiring. On the plus side, this could simply mean you need a new set of spark plugs to solve the problem. Here is some more info on the code.
